We offer virtual machines to our faculty members. Our infrastructure runs Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVM).
VMs can be used for academic purposes, for example to provide a common environment for students to complete coursework.
Additionally, it is common to request a virtual machine to assist in your research, for example to host a web application to showcase your work.
We have created a form to reqeust a VM for faculty and grad students.
Submitting this form will create a ticket in our help system. We will add you to that ticket for communication regarding your VM, so please make sure you include your EECIS username in the form!
Graduate students requesting a VM will need faculty approval for the creation of the machine.
See our documentation on academic resources regarding pre-approving your class for accounts.
As more VMs get requested over time, we may have to limit the creation of new VMs and/or decommission existing VMs which are no longer in use. We will try to keep up with demand, although we cannot always guarantee this.
